Adele - the voice of a Goddess

"Adele's voice makes me feel like I'm listening to God" - Beyonce, 2011

I know. Turning up the volume to high while using earphone is not exactly good for the ear. But I can't help it.

Adele's voice is so amazing. Max-ing the volume to a tolerable level is one of the ways to enjoy the divine falsetto, vibrato, intonation, the dynamics of the songs and of course, the deep emotions she's conveying in her songs. The beautiful yet occasionally melancholic lines in the lyrics leave me wondering how true love is like.

Ah, I found a Goddess.

Boyce Avenue - Just The Way You Are - Best Acoustic Cover Ever!

It was a lonely night. My plan was to complete my case study. Being lonely, I decided to have Bruno Mar's voice to accompany me through the night. It was a nice listen. He is one very talented singer & songwriter.

After looping "Just the way you are" for a few times, the thought of listening to an acoustic cover of it came into my mind. And the best place to look for such thing is none other than Youtube.

Browsing through the search result, a familiar name appeared - Boyce Avenue. Haha, of course. They specialized in performing songs from different artists, injecting their own flavor and essence into the songs. Acoustic version for most of the cover. I got to know them months ago when I stumbled upon their cover of Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love.

Without hesitation, I clicked the link to listen to their cover. I had a strong feeling that this was gonna be good.

I was right. I was beyond right.

The cover was good. Really good. Really really good! I was totally blown away!

You know, my friend Caryn once said, if you never experienced goosebumps from a song, it means you don't love music enough. Well this was not the first time I experienced goosebumps. In fact, this time, I went beyond experiencing goosebumps. I was so excited that I couldn't contain my excitement by just sitting in front of the laptop, looping the song. I was so excited I was unable to continue working on my assignment. I was screaming inside my head. I frantically click here and there, opening windows and programs, looking for a way to download the video in high-def. For the first time, I was willing to go the extra mile to download a music video that I like, without compromising the quality and the voice. Mind you, it was 124MB for an unconverted HD video.

Perhaps I was too excited, and I operated my aging laptop too frantically, my laptop froze!! My aged laptop just couldn't keep up with my song-asm. I had to restart my laptop and went over all the hassle to download the HD video again. =.= Gosh that just prolonged the wait.

By the time I finished the last paragraph, my download had completed. Is it worth spending all night, searching, downloading one single nice song? Is it worth abandoning your assignment, finding a way to get the song you want? Is it worth the time expressing your excitement by blogging about it?

For all the above, I answered: Hell Yea!

Life As We Know It - Great soundtracks!

Watched 'Life As We Know It' yesterday. To me, the movie is rather decent, but the soundtracks are GREAT! There are two songs in the movie that I really like, hence I'm promoting them here.

#1

The Song Of the Week goes to For You Now by Bruno Merz (not to be confused with Bruno Mars lol). It's slow, sweet & serene. I was instantly touched by the melody when I was in the cinema watching the movie. The song fitted into the scene perfectly. This is the kinda song where you need to lie down, close your eyes, forgo all your thoughts and immerse yourself into its wonderful melody, in the middle of the quiet night.

#2

Sweet Child O'Mine is a great rock song, originally sung by Guns N' Roses. However, I like the Taken by Trees' version better. As opposed to GnR's high-energy, rock version, this cover is slow-tempo & mellow. A nice switch indeed.

Well, in case for some reasons, you find the above two songs boring, I got something else for you. This one sure is going to entertain you. Our country's very own product. Ladies and gentlemen,

DP Seri Rosmah Mansor's music video - If Tomorrow Never Comes!! Don't play play man, our first lady got MV. How many PMs' wife in this world do you know that has her own MV? Swell man. And the music video is an epic _ _ _ _. The red border, the karaoke lyric... Wait until you watch the MV, whoah man, the voice, the scenes... Not to be missed!

p.s. don't kill me, shit.

If I Ain't Got You

Widely known fact 1: Maroon 5 is a pop rock band.
Widely known fact 2: Adam Levine's voice is distinctive, melodic

Not-so-widely known fact 1: Adam Levine can sing R & B.
Not-so-widely known fact 2: Adam Levine can sing it WELL!

Listened to Maroon 5's live cover of Alicia Key's If I Ain't Got You. Very nice! I really didn't expect him to sing R & B so well. Love the part where he hit the high note with his falsetto near the end of the song! Too bad none of the videos available in Youtube is clear, and don't do Adam Levine justice. You can get the song from Maroon 5's latest album - Hands All Over.

Adam Levine's voice to me isn't the strongest, but it is very unique and distinctive. Maybe 'whimsical' is the word for it.

Gonna loop the song in my player for quite some time. Adam Levine FTW!

P.S. I like the first verse of the song. Very true indeed. What do you live for?

Creepy Scientist

I need some live music to heal my soul.

Wings Musicafe

Wings Musicafe. The place where I discovered great live performance.

This is the place where I discovered the best rendition of Radiohead's Creep & Coldplay's The Scientist that I have come across. I didn't manage to get the name of the performer though.

From time to time, I will still actively recall the moment where I sat with a bunch of friends in front of the stage, enjoying the soothing live performance.

These two songs are in the list of my all-time favourites. The truth is, I actually prefer the performer's version to the original version LOL. Well maybe it was the live effect. Maybe it was the nice atmosphere. Maybe I prefer acoustic version to rock version.

Due to the lack of transportation and busy life, I have not returned to the cafe for more great performance. Still, I will definitely make time to revisit the cafe.

I'm looking forward to the next visit.

I'm looking forward to more pleasant surprises from the live performance.
